Native Trees
Native Trees
Types of Trees
Native trees are those that have adapted to our climate and are more likely to succeed in our landscapes than foreign trees. They also contribute to our native ecology, offering food, shelter and cover to the insect and animal population of Connecticut. For example, Oak trees (Quercus genus) support 517 species of native moths and butterflies (Lepidoptera species). Reference ‘Bringing Nature Home: How Native Plants Sustain Wildlife In Our Garden’, Douglas W. Tallamy (2007). We strongly recommend this book!
